Advantages of Solar Pool Pumps

Using solar heating and pumps in Southern Arizona for pools has become increasingly popular in recent years, due to growing environmental awareness and rising energy costs. Solar technology has exploded in the last two decades, resulting in more options than ever for solar pool pumps and heating options. There are several benefits to using solar pool pumps.

Switch to a solar pool pump to enjoy:

  • Reduced dependence on fossil fuels
  • Lowering your home’s carbon footprint
  • Lowering costs in the long term
  • Fewer repairs and maintenance
  • Environmental benefits of a renewable energy source

We can replace your current pool pump with a solar-powered model that is powered by the sun, so it won’t add anything to your electric bill. The most important thing to consider is selecting the right type and size pump for the size and volume of your pool.

The Right Size Pump for Your Pool

Solar pool pumps are available to replace up to a 3 hp standard pump. In order to gain the full benefit of switching to solar, you need a pump that is sufficient for filtering the water in a pool, fountain, or pond that is the size of the one on your property.

In order to recommend the right pump, we will consider:

  • The dimensions and volume of your pool
  • The location
  • The type of filter used currently
  • The heating system used in your pool
  • The horsepower of your current pump
  • Other water features

Pool pumps are often overlooked when considering how to reduce energy consumption at home. In many homes, the pool pump is second only to the air conditioner in energy consumption. Solar-powered variable speed pool pumps are a relatively new technology that is quickly gaining popularity. A variable speed pool pump offers the same water filtration at a fraction of the cost of electric single speed pumps.

Solar Pool Heating

Solar technology can be used to heat your pool without relying on electricity and costing you extra.

The Solar Store offers two brands of solar pool heating systems: SolarCoil and Suntrek.

SolarCoil offers cost-effective pool heating for what you need: pools, spas, and hot tubs. It can be customized to what you require as well: manual or automatic; commercial or residential.

The SolarCoil system is sized based on the amount of water to be heated. The Solar Store will custom design your system to get the most out of your swim season. SolarCoil’s unique design uses 25% of the connections of other systems, dramatically reducing the number of potential leaks. It also rests on rafters above the roof, allowing for drainage and convenient removal of debris. Mounted without roof penetration on flat roofs, SolarCoil provides easy removal and replacement during any roofing maintenance.

Suntrek builds custom-design collectors that pull in enormous amounts of solar heat while remaining compact, sleek, and unobtrusive on your roof. Other solar dealers only offer factory-made panels in just three constricting sizes. With Suntrek, The Solar Store customizes your order to your own roof’s measurements to give you all sorts of installation flexibility.

As the solar energy is collected (even in overcast conditions), Suntrek works with your pool’s filter pump to quickly convert hundreds of gallons of cold water in to warm delight. Suntrek simply falls in step with your pool’s routine daily filtering system:

  1. Set your time clock to run the pool’s filtering cycle during the hours the sun shines.
  2. Cold pool water enters your filter and is “detoured” up to solar collectors.
  3. Water enters the solar panels. Each panel features 72 customized, side-by-side water channels (we customize the length to your roof to ensure optimal collection and containment of solar heat).
  4. Water is quickly heated as it’s propelled through the panel and returned to your pool.
