2007 Women in Solar Energy Award Winner
Katharine Kent wins top award from American Solar Energy Society
Tucson, Ariz. July 6, 2007 Katharine Kent, president of The Solar Store serving Tucson and Phoenix, was selected as the 2007 “Women in Solar Energy Award Winner” by the American Solar Energy Society (ASES). This award recognizes a woman who has created a change toward promoting the use of solar energy. As the award winner, Kent needed to show she possesses a technical level of competence, technical accomplishment and/or is an outstanding educator, advocate, promoter, change agent, developer, facilitator related to solar. She inspires young women to enter the sciences through educational activities or mentoring and has made a significant contribution to the field of solar energy.
About Katharine Kent
Kent is the president of The Solar Store since it’s opening in 1998. She earned her BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, an MS in Nuclear and Energy Engineering and an MBA from the University of Arizona. She specializes in thermal and electric solar energy and thermal human comfort, is a licensed professional engineer in Arizona and a Certified Energy Manager. In addition, she holds dual, commercial and residential Arizona contracting licenses in electrical and plumbing with solar. Arizona Governor, Janet Napolitano appointed her to the Solar Energy Advisory Council. Kent won the US Department of Energy-Energy Innovation Award was also named the Society of Women's Engineer's Distinguished New Engineer.

Solar Store Names Andrew Gordon as Chief Operating Officer
Tucson, Ariz. July 11, 2007 Katharine Kent, president of The Solar Store, welcomes Andrew Gordon as Chief Operating Officer for Tucson. In addition to his duties as COO for Tucson, Gordon is in charge of The Solar Store’s expansion to Phoenix.
Gordon has been a senior level executive with more than 25 years experience in broad base P&L spanning a multitude of business industries, products, applications and concepts. His strengths include new business/industry creation, executive-level management, multi store retailing, product development and consultative services. Previous top-level company experience includes President Spa Scapes Construction Co, President- Spaing Partners, Senior VP -Solarfence, Inc. and Princpal-UCSB Consulting.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University and has a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering degree in progress. In addition, he is an accredited and certified mentor/executive coach and is a certified Innermetrix Behavioral Assessment Consultant.
